Power Supply using LM317 voltage regulator
This item is the result of continuously having to design/build separate power supply modules for every design project that we have, as there never seems to be one conveniently available. Its been designed so that both the TO-3 and the TO-220 packages will fit on it, depending on your current needs. It's also been tracked out to include the four rectifier diodes. The output voltage can be chosen by varying one resistor, or even having it as a potentiometer attached to the case. Given, that there's a large variety of heatsinks available, there's enough space to find one that will fit relatively easily. Below is a built up unit, undergoing load testing.

Built up regulator board

Unpopulated pcb is available for £6 per unit.

To prevent things (screwdrivers etc) shorting out parts of the board and causing a fire hazard, it's best placed inside a box, together with the stepdown transformer, fuse, proper connectors and air holes to enable it to keep cool (especially if using the high current regulator. A small fan may be necessary.

This board can take two different sizes of capacitor, one after the rectifier stage, the other, after the regulator itself.
